Filling propane bottles for barbecue grills, forklifts, RV's,
and heaters are a vital part of our propane business at the Nemaha Co.
Cooperative. For the protection of our customers, their families, and the
community we serve, it is imperative that we comply with all safety rules
regarding this product.
One way we do this is by offering to install Overfill
Protection Devices (OPD's) on all propane bottles of 40 lbs or less (forklifts
exempt). The OPD is a valve designed to prevent a supplier of propane from
overfilling a bottle to a level that is unsafe. Installation of this valve is
required on all bottles after April 1, 2002. Overfilling a bottle with
propane is dangerous for storage and transportation.
The Nemaha Co. Cooperative will follow all safety regulations
related to this product. This involves documenting the following information
on all bottles filled:
Due to increased risk potential to our company, customers, and
community, the Nemaha Co. Cooperative will offer installation of OPD valves on
all bottles of 40 lbs. or less with the exception of forklift bottles. The
customer will be responsible for the cost of the valve plus appropriate labor
for installation. This will include grill bottles as well as propane bottles
used for cutting torches.
After April 1, 2002, no bottles will be filled without the OPD
valve installed on the bottle with the exception of forklift bottles.
