Effective March 1, 2002
Due to the volatility in the grain markets the Nemaha County Co-op will no longer price grain at times that we cannot resell the grain. This means we will only buy grain from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday and only on days when grain futures are trading. We will no longer buy grain on Saturdays, Sundays or holidays. In a volatile or fast market pricing enviroment or limit move we reserve the right to take risk protection by delaying, reducing or limiting the ammount of grain that may be purchased. This may also include purchasing grain only during market trading hours from 9:30 am to 1 pm. Grain offers will be taken but are subject to completion based on a hedgeable quantity, futures market conditions and direct processor or terminal bids. Due to the volatility in the market we are currently purchasing grain between 9:30 am. and 1:00 pm. If the market allows we will attempt to buy grain at late as 1:13 pm. pending volatility going into the close at 1:15 pm. Ocassionally we may prehedge a commodity which will allow us to continue purchasing grain up to our prehedge amount after the market closes. Most often this prehedge will be minimal in quantity and utilized for smaller amounts purchased. Larger quantities may be offered and placed in the overnight trading session. Corn Shrink & Drying Discounts Due to higher grain prices we found it necessary to adjust our discount schedule to recognize moisture in a different way which most of the industry has been doing for many many years. For many years the industry has used 15.0 as the benchmark for corn. We utilize a 1.5% shrink factor along with a drying discount factor instead of the 8 cents per bushel discount taken in the past. When corn prices are over $3.00 per bushel the value of the moisture above 15.0 is considerably more expensive and should be deducted by weight from the scale ticket in order to be fair and accurate. We are currently using a discount schedule using .75% shrink between 15.1-15.5 and a reduced drying level of 3.5 cents per point between 15.1 -16.5. This is subject to change without notice pending market conditions.
