NCCA Answer farm
Your Nemaha Co. Co-op has
added the “Answer Farm” to the plots this year. The plot was planned in
conjunction with “Croplan Genetics” as a training tool, to look at some of the
production issues that we face yearly. The Plot is located just east of the
Seneca facilities, on the west side of the creek, and will be an ongoing
demonstration plot throughout the summer. The plot includes the following:
1.
Corn population study: This will be the fourth year of the population
study, with a bit of a twist. There are two hybrids in the study, a flex ear
hybrid, and a fixed ear hybrid.
2.
Soybean Planting date: A 3.1 maturity bean, Croplan 3176 treated with
Apronmax , was planted on five different dates, starting on April 15th.
3.
Soybean treatment study: an offensive variety and a defensive variety
were planted on three different dates using three different treatments. A. No
Treatment. B. Treated with Apronmax fungicide, C. Treated with Apronmax
fungicide and Nod+ innoculant.
4.
Planter type. A bush type bean and an upright bean, 30 inch rows vs
drill
5.
Corn treatment comparison: A. Non treated. B. Gaucho treated. C. Planter
box treatment with Agrox Premier. D. Capture in furrow.
6.
Corn depth comparison, from ½ inch to three inches deep.
7.
Planter speed demonstration at three different speeds.
8.
Bt comparison in hybrids. We know that some Bt adds value to some
hybrids more than others. This demonstration compares western genetics and
eastern genetics, Bt and non-BT.
9.
Corn genetic characteristics. Five genetic families were planted to
display the different characteristics that are inherent to those families. This
is a great system to help place hybrids, and to spread your genetic diversity.
There will be a great deal of info captured from the “Answer Plot” throughout
the summer. Feel free to stop in and visit us about the plot, and walk through
the plot. The biggest value of this information is that it will be generated in
our own back yard and will be easy to walk through whenever you have a little
time.
